Baby with heartbeat

Hey friends. So, babying was in there, in the uterus where it should be, and it had a heartbeat…so you’d think I’d be ecstatic, but I’m still worried. The heartbeat was 80 x/minute, and from everything I’ve read online, that’s low. _What to Expect_ says at 6 weeks the heart starts out at 80, so I’m trying to think of that. I’m at 6 weeks 3 days. The doctor said that it is too early to comment on the heart rate. I didn’t get the fetal measurements, but the doctor did say that they were “perfect for what is expected for today” (he was a very measured in all of his expressions).  I’ll find out later today what RBA thinks of the heart-rate and measurements and will let you know.

  1. hope

i know the hardest thing is to have faith that everything will be OK after so many losses and disappointments. But, as an outsider reading your post, I see many reasons to be optimistic. First, you saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks! This means the most. And you are having symptoms. It is also scary to rely on symptoms to feel confident in your pregnancy as they can stop cold and everything can be OK. But, if you have symptoms than your little star is snuggled up and growing. The heartbeat may seem a bit low but every baby is different. With IVF you do know the exact date of fertilization but you don’t know the date of implantation. Little star has a beating heart! How incredibly exciting!!!

    • Thank you of reminding me what is important—I can’t seem to feel that excitement and gratitude, and I so want to. Maybe I just need to flush out all of this anxiety and can get back to a place of hope. And you’re right—seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks 3 days is a great milestone, no matter what. What you said about implantation has also been very helpful to me—I wonder, too, if it implanted a little later than average. You’re a dear for your support.

  2. A beating heart. What a beautiful sound that was, I’m sure. Thinking nothing but good thoughts for you. I know these first several weeks are so hard when you’ve been where we are. You’ll get there!!! xo
